At Pinterest, the number of applications and dynamic infrastructure platforms, such as Kubernetes, have grown at a rapid pace. As a result, traditional identity authentication mechanisms that used a static token, network ACLs or LDAP service accounts, created an “identity crisis”. This crisis was increasing engineering complexity and hindering developer velocity.
